Play Things is my recent series of photolithographic, photopolymer gravure and laser-engraved woodblock prints that feature theater-like stage sets. An exploration of vulnerability, they expressing the ever-present tug-of-war between public/private self, individual/society, human/nature. The images aim to simultaneously reveal moments of defenselessness while admitting the impossibility of denying our own fragility. The conceptual dichotomies in the work are mirrored by the literal pairing of images, sandwiching of photographs, and montage of old and new technologies.
